Shades of Red
Red is the colour we associate with love, passion and in many cultures it's also synonymous with good fortune and happiness. If you are looking to install red made to measure roller blinds as window coverings, there are many gorgeous, vibrant shades to choose from; ruby reds, scarlet through to burgundy and dark sienna, as well as a startling variety of different fabrics and designs to match your interior design scheme, as well as budget and any technical requirements that your living area might demand.
The obvious use for a plain red roller blind is to brighten up an otherwise neutral interior, it's a relatively quick and easy way of bringing striking scarlet or vermilion shades to your windows and other matching accessories such as cushions or picture frames will add bold accents to your room. Where there might be a risk of water splashes such as in the kitchen or bathroom, it would be best to use a fabric that is suitable or recommended for moist environments. These red bathroom or kitchen roller blinds come in fabrics that have usually been coated with a special water impermeable finish that means although suitable for damp conditions they still retain the look and texture of a normal fabric and can usually also be cleaned using a damp cloth as the water will not penetrate the fibres and damage the blind. For a completely waterproof blind it will be manufactured from a material such as PVC and should state this on the product details.
The depth of colour that you choose for your blind and the density of the fabric weave you select will determine the amount of shade and light screening which manufacturers often refer to as the opacity in their product details. A red bedroom roller blind fabric could be patterned or plain, might be best selected in a blackout material which will eliminate 100% of visible and UV light as well as providing privacy. Although blackout blinds do not allow any light penetration through the fabric itself, some light might still pass around the sides of the fabric when the blind is closed, where it meets the window recess. After blackout fabrics, dark red roller blinds in heavier fabrics with a dense weave or heavy texture will usually provide good privacy and shade. Fabrics in deep shades of burgundy, maroon, wine and crimson may often be manufactured as dim out window blinds and although not blackout may have a higher rating for opacity and may be lined to restrict light penetration. At the other end of the scale, voile or sheer roller blinds and weave or screen blinds which diffuse or filter light into the room, leaving the visibility of the view on the other side of the blind, can be a colourful solution where natural light needs to be maintained and with a red sheer weave roller blind it will produce a warm glow.
There are some beautiful patterned red roller blinds in bold, contemporary and modern designs, playful striped, check or polka dot fabrics, as well as the more classic and traditional floral roses, chrysanthemums, poppies, cherry roller blind prints and bright red children's roller blind patterns. It's possible to purchase a terracotta or brick red blind with enhanced properties also such as antibacterial, flame retardant, reflective or energy saving. Some situations may warrant an antibacterial fabric which is treated with a coating to prohibit the growth of bacteria, fungi, mould and mildew. Or an energy saving material where the manufacturers are using thermally efficient fabrics or solar reflective coatings to reduce solar gain and aid in relative heat loss. Remember that all fabrics reflect, absorb and transmit sunlight and one of the most important factors is the fit of the blind itself.
